Pressure Wash Your House Before Christmas

With the holidays coming up it is a great time to get a house wash before putting up Christmas decorations. A clean exterior will be a nice thing to see for your guests coming over to eat your food. One thing to consider when hiring a pressure washing company or doing it yourself is how the gutters will look afterward.  We scrub our gutters with a special cleaner to get them white again. Most companies do not go to this trouble so their clean house is not as clean as it should be. It is fine without taking this step but the difference it makes is worth it to us. If you live in the Northeast Georgia area and need pressure washing services just give us a call 706-224-4241 or email us for a free quote. We also sell gutter cleaner and rent extensions to homeowners who have their own washers but don’t have the proper extension wands or poles to reach high spots on their homes. How can we help you today?big-clean-housechanged

Green Grass in Winter

Ever wonder how others keep their lawn green even in the winter? The answer is rye grss here in Georgia. It is a really bright green & I like it. It is cheap compared to other grass seed. However it does die in the heat of summer. I think it is worth it though to brighten things up in the cold months. The best thing is that you don’t have to do much to get it to grow. Just spread it & water it a bit if you don’t get sufficient rain. Check out the lawn below I found online. I saw it for $35 per 50 pound bag last week.

Pinestraw Scam

Be careful when getting pinestraw installed at your property especially if it was just a random knock on your door to get you to buy. Generally these guys quote a cheap price to spread the pinestraw. Usually around $3.50 – $4 per bale, which is ridiculous because the stuff costs $3 per bale wholesale. So clearly they cannot make any profit like this. So what they do is just charge you double the number of bales they actually used. It is a widespread practice so it is difficult for me to get a successful bid on pinestraw installs since my price seems high. But it is actually cheaper than the scammers who in essence are getting about $7 – $8 per bale! I have no problem with good deals but I do have one with dishonesty.

Leaves hurt your lawn

It should go without saying that leaves left on top of your grass is not good. What happens if you leave a piece of wood on grass for a week? The grass dies out. Well it is similar with leaves. They are not heavy like wood but a lot of them together do the same harm. so make sure you keep the leaves blown off, mulched up, or bagged. Or as a last resort rake them up! Do they even still sell rakes? :) Everyone I know hates to use a rake. Of course we can help you get rid of the leaves. Give us a call today. 706-224-4241

Ferilize for the Fall

Fall is a great time to get some fertilizer on your lawn especially with all teh rain we have had lately. Just don’t over do it. Even if you just use a basic 10-10-10 fertilizer it will really improve your lawn for next spring. Also rye grass is great for the cooler season. It is cheap & is great for fescue lawns that get thin in the winter. It will will die in the heat of summer but by then it has served its purpose and the fescue will be thriving.

Choosing a Service Provider

Most people look at price first when buying things, as well they should. However customer service is very important especially when buying a service. You get what you pay for is an old saying that people still say because it is one of the truest statements ever. Why save $5 a month on a questionable company when you will eventually have to waste time calling and complaining and eventually looking for the replacement company? Ask around your neighborhood and see who they are happy with. It is easy to find a lawn service provider but it is hard to find one that does quality work since most don’t last long. I’d rather have a company I can hire and forget about. If you don’t notice anything about the service, chances are they are doing their job! If you are noticing things , they are usually not positive things.

Pruning in the fall

Fall is a great time to prune your trees and trim hedges. Don’t forget to cut back your monkey grass as well. Also get those low hanging limbs out of your way that hit your head when you mow the grass. Low limbs also hurt the lawn by shading it too much. Walter Reeves has a great site for scheduling different lawn work.

I am here to help!

This is my first post on this blog. The point is to help homeowners with their lawn and property. I run a small lawn service business and believe I can be of help to others.  Any questions please post a comment and / send an email to tinman23@alltel.net. I’ll start with a pet peeve of mine. When putting out plants or flowers in your yard, you need to have a plan. Don’t just dig a hole and put the plant in the first place you like. You should think about how it will look as it grows, will it be bigger than is pleasing, will it block out other plants behind it? Also remember to use potting soil when planting it. And put some mulch or pinestraw around it. Also, if it is close to another bed make the mulch touch the mulch in the other bed so you do not leave a strip of grass that you can not fit your mower in between. If you set your lanscape up correctly you will have to weed eat less thus saving time for fun things!
