Gutter Guards Work

I have installed gutter guards for a handful of clients over the years and they were pleased. So I finally put some on my own home  few weeks ago. I have so many trees that I have to clean my gutters out about 4 times a year. So I has hoping to cut that back to maybe just once per year. I assumed some tiny leaves would get through where the guards meet the shingles. But there were none in the gutters at all when I checked today. I blew off the ones that built up where the guards meet the roof and even then they did not blow under the guards.

I used the wire mesh type guards which are not super attractive but are not very noticeable so I am happy with that purchase. I got my gutter guards at the Commerce Ga Home Depot but you can find them most anywhere at hardware stores. Of course I still blow off the roof but I don’t HAVE to like I HAD to do the gutters.

If you need gutter guards installed contact us today.

Home Owners Associations in Georgia

A lot of people complain about their homeowners associations here in northeast Georgia and I guess most other places too. I know their are some people in leadership positions who go overboard when they have a little power but generally I think the HOA’s provide good guidelines for neighborhoods. You have to have some rules in place to keep knuckleheads from doing weird stuff right next door to you.

One thing I think HOA’s could benefit from is hiring a single company to take care of the lawn services for the neighborhood. This would provide two good incentives for homeowners. A lower lawn care bill since the single company could be more efficient since they have less driving to do with so many properties in one subdivision. Also there would be less traffic through the neighborhood of random lawn care providers with many different employees. This creates a more stable neighborhood.

Of course I would like my lawn care business to be the one doing the whole neighborhood. :) But whether an HOA chooses me or another reputable lawn care provider, the benefits are similar.

Leaf Blowers

How much time does a leaf blower save over a rake? I don’t know the calculations but I know I don’t want to find out. It is amazing how much time  a good backpack blower will save you on moving big piles of leaves.  I have several huge tress in my yard and I hate dealing with leaves on my own property. But having a good blower takes a lot of the hassle out of the deal.

Northeast Georgia has some beautiful leaves when they change color. But when they fall to the ground they are a problem. I’d like to thank whoever invented the leaf blower if he / she was still around.

By the way Davis Outdoor Equipment 706-367-7174 was running a sale ($30  off) on Redmax Blowers last week and may still be available. I picked one up as a replacement for an old Stihl Blower. I like it a lot so far. I get no kickbacks from them by the way…. just mentioning. :) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3287/3010635280_276cd3ab0d.jpg

Georgia Ground is Soaked

News flash. The ground is soggy here in Northeast Georgia. Everyone knows that but it is as wet as I have ever seen it in the 12 total years I have been mowing lawns. We were on a property today doing a pine straw install and walking across the grass was like walking in a swamp. It is amazing how much rain has fallen in the past couple months. It is better than a drought so I hope no one is complaining except the people who have been truly flooded out of their homes. I certainly feel for those folks.

Spreading Pine Straw is no fun :)

650 bales of pine straw is no fun task!  Not so bad if it did not have to be loaded in a truck and moved around the property. That made it time consuming. But it makes a property look so much better!

Seattle / Georgia

I do not see how the humans in Seattle get anything done with it raining all the time :) As much rain as we have had in Georgia it has caused some delays in work but it rains almost daily in Seattle. Not that I am complaining. Extra rain is good…. GREAT compared to the drought that started in 2007.

The rain makes the leaves fall faster also. More fell today than in the last week.

Dead Fire Ant

Pine Straw People

Just a reminder post to be aware of door knockers selling pine straw.  Most of them give a super cheap price per bale then lie about how many they actually spread in your flower beds. Get a good deal when you can but know when it is too good to be true.

For a real quote give us a call.

When Fire Ants Go Wild

Fire ant bites can obviously hurt but they can also leave small scars. My daughter still has slight scarring left from fire ant bits when she was small. Here are some photos of fire ant bites. Not pretty.
