Winter in North Georgia

With colder temps this weekend and most of the leaves fallen, north Georgia is looking like…. well winter time. Barren branches, darkness at 530 pm, and cold weather can make for a gloomy time of year. There are ways to pep things up. Keep the leaves blown off the grass which looks better and helps the lawn. If a vandal dumped 10 trash cans of leaf sized paper on your lawn, would you wait until spring to clean it up? Also some new mulch or pine straw gives some brighter colors to a property. Plant some colorful pansies too. They can stand severe cold weather.

Christmas Lights in North Georgia

One of the best places to see Christmas lights here in North Georgia is at Lanier Islands. You pay by the car load and can look at the lights from your heated vehicle. There is also a carnival type area at the end so beware of that if you don’t want to spend a lot of money. The ride through is a good deal if you have a van or suv.

Temps Dropping in North Georgia

It’s looking like winter in Jackson County, Georgia with colder temps coming in Saturday. Be sure to cover outside water faucets and bring in any plants that you might still have outside at this late season. The weather has been really mild so far so hopefully that will continue after this cold snap.

Mowing Boring to You?

I actually enjoy mowing but many people hate it I realize. One thing that makes it more enjoyable is listening to music or talk shows while riding. With free podcasts (a podcast is an online radio show that can play on an mp3 player) I get to listen to a wealth of information while working.  The key to enjoying music or other audio is to have hearing protection covering your ears and ear phones. Turning up the music so loud that it hurts your hearing long term is not worth it. Just get some ear muffs and you are set.

Keep Gutters Cleaned Out

We have cleaned out gutters for homeowners that appeared to have never been cleaned out before. That is a bad plan. Clogged gutters don’t do their job and actually make things worse than not having gutters at all. They allow water to get behind wood which causes the wood to rot eventually.

Also, deteriorating leaves can become food for ants. When trees hang close to your roof ants can just make their way to your home easily and feed on the rotting debris in the gutters. They will wind up inside your house soon there after. One house we worked on that had apparently never had a gutter clean out had fire ants in the gutters and on the roof! I have never seen anything like it.

Call us today (contact page) if you have clogged gutters and need help. We serve the Northeast Georgia area.

Careful Adding Mower Fuel

For the first time ever I put some 2 cycle oil mixed gas in my mower which takes straight gas. I googled up some info to see if it would hurt the engine and all the data I got said that it would be fine. So since I could not siphon the gas out and the little pump I bought did not work, I just ran it after filling up with the correct fuel. It ran fine and I have had no issue with it so far since.

Just be careful when adding fuel to your equipment. It is easy to get in a hurry and make a mistake. Adding regular gas to a engine requiring oil mixed fuel IS a PROBLEM.
