Dangerous Roadside Tractors

We see state workers bush hogging roadsides here in Georgia quite often and it is easy to get used to them. But it is important to pay close attention. Same goes for mowers on the roadsides. The video below shows a fatal accident involving a roadside tractor.

Mower Junkyards

With so many lawn mowers sold every year I am surprised we don’t see giant mower junkyards like the ones for cars. I guess there is an online junkyard since many people sell their worn out mowers on craigslist and parts on eBay. So it is good that some mowers get recycled that way. If I were guessing I’d say the average life of a lawn tractor is about 3 to 4 years. That may increase as folks try to save money by keeping their cars, home, and other equipment maintained better. Some tips to keep your mower alive longer below.

1 change oil often
2 change and clean air filters
3 keep blades sharp
4 keep proper air pressure in tires
5 grease spindles and other grease points daily or before each use.

Mower Roll Over Protection

I’m all for mower safety but I am not a big fan of the roll over protection bars. Most of the ZTR mowers I see in north Georgia have roll bars. They can be lowered when not on a steep slope I know but still it is an aggravation sometimes. My Dixie Choppers do not have the roll bars and I am glad. If you leave steep slopes for the weed eater you won’t need Roll over protection.
Probably the main reason mower manufacturers put them on mowers is guys like this….

Idiot on Lawn Mower

The title says it all. Lawn mowers are dangerous. I know I sound like an old man worrying. But you can get seriously hurt.

Fire Ants – No Control With Club Soda

Fire Ants – No Control With Club Soda.

I knew this internet myth was just that … a myth. I saw an email printed from a University of Georgia student with this rumor about club soda killing fire ants. Club soda is not a magic cure for fire ants. Anything can spread like wildfire or fire ants on the internet.

Weed Solution for Bermuda Grass in Georgia

It is January in Georgia…. in the rest of the USA too I guess. :) Now is a great time to get ahead of your weeds in your bermuda lawn. That is the most common grass for newer homes in Georgia. The grass has turned brown and is dormant. So you can now spray weed killer on the lawn and not hurt the grass. The weeds will die. But with colder weather it might take 3 or 4 weeks for their death to occur. This is for Bermuda lawns only! And only while the grass is brown & dormant!

This is an easy solution that any homeowner can do. If you wold like for us to do it instead we will be glad to do so. Contact us today.

Cold Weather Kills Bugs

I have heard about hard winters killing off bugs for us here in Georgia. More cold is supposed to make the spring less “buggy”. I don’t know how true it is or how effective the cold is but after a week of freezing temps in North Georgia it is possible we may see fewer fire ants, flies, millipedes, etc. That would be nice. We shall see.

Weather in Georgia

Ever since I started mowing full time as a business I took note of weather patterns. It seems the patterns run in 2 year segments. The drought was about 2 years so it is possible the rainy weather will be back next year. But weather is still unpredictable. Just watch the goof balls on tv and you will see they have no idea what is going on. :)

Georgia Warm Up

Glad to see the temps rising a little here in north Georgia. 30 for a low is nice compared to 17. Super cold does not usually hang around for long here. We couldn’t take much more than a week of all day freezing. I couldn’t anyway. ;)
