When shopping for mower blades remember that a key factor is the blade thickness. Cheaper blades use thinner metal so they will wear out sooner. Better quality steel will make a blade last longer as well. You get what you pay for…as always.

Zero Turn Mowers that are made for homeowners are showing up more and more in people’s garages. These mowers are time savers as they get in tighter spots and do not waste time on wide turns. They are an improvement over the lawn tractor in design and function.
However I hope consumers know that these ZTR mowers are not commercial grade just because they resemble the lawn mowers that lawn care companies use. Commercial ZTRs are made to take a beating… mowing 20- 60 acres a week. Homeowner models are made to mow one yard. They are not as tough obviously so keep that in mind when shopping.

Zero turn mowers are great! Compared to old style lawn tractors ZTR mowers are like color tv compared to black and white televisions. They are faster, more efficient, and easier on your arms since you are not fighting a steering wheel.
In recent years ztr homeowner models have become more popular and now are sold at Home Depot and similar big box stores. These mowers have the same design as commercial mower as they do turn on a dime. But they are far from being as tough as a commercial zero turn mower. Just by eye balling a home owner model you can see they are not built the same as a commercial one. The decks are thinner, tires smaller, and I imagine the spindles are not as good. I would advise a homeowner to buy a used commercial mower instead of a homeowner model ztr. The commercial model will last a heck of a lot longer in my opinion.

One easy way to save money on gas while doing lawn care is to ease up on the throttle of your weed trimmer. Unless you are trimming an overgrown ditch , there is no need to run a weed eater wide open. About half throttle is plenty on normal trimming. For example, in my lawn care business where we may mow 9 yards a day we never use a full gallon of mixed gas for our weed trimmers.
Some good tips for maintaining your lawn mower to avoid costly and time consuming repairs at the shop.
Cutting your grass too low is a top reason your lawn looks worse than your neighbors. Also check your tire pressure on your lawn mower. Low pressure causes uneven mowing and scalping.
You need pine straw in your landscape beds… or mulch. The reason is that it controls weeds and keeps in moisture for the plants. But to stop weeds completely you have to maintain the beds weekly. Either spraying with weed killer or pulling them up by hand are the most common methods. The more you spray the less pulling is needed. Just be careful not to kill your plants. It is not hard to do if you spray on a windy day. It is best to do it on a day with no wind.
If your mower has not been cranked since last November you may want to try it now. If you need it worked on then a head start will help you out. Mower shops will be much busier in about 4 weeks. So now is the time to get to the head of the line while their business is still slow. There are not that many places to take mowers in Jackson County GA anyway. So that makes it more important to get in line.
Here is a feed for lawn mowers for sale in the Athens Georgia Area. Good luck if you are in the market.

Here’s a money saving tip for those who go to gyms for light cardio workouts. Try using a push mower to cut your lawn. Cut it once a week and do a little weed pulling in the landscape beds and you will have a free workout. Cut out the $30 a month to the gym and get a nice lawn to boot.
