Good or Bad Pine Straw

How to tell if the pine straw you are buying is good or bad:

  1. The reddish color is usually fresher and better overall.
  2. Ask the seller to break open a bail to see if there are limbs, trash, grass, etc inside it.
  3. Tighter bales go further.
  4. If you are a homeowner, just call around to local lawn care providers to see where they get pine straw. They will know which places carry the good stuff consistently.
  5. In my personal opinion, The Straw Lot in Jefferson Georgia is the place to go. The bales are clean and big and the guy that manages the lot is helpful .

Winter Snakes

Saw a snake out today when mowing / leaf mulching in Maysville. I have never seen a snake this late in the year. But with warmer temps into November this year I guess things change. It has been plenty cold the past 2 weeks though so I would think snakes would be hibernating or whatever they do in the winter.

Maysville Ga Lawn Care

Hopefully August will not be brutally hot. July had some super hot days but not a long string of them thankfully. We had some good rain tonight so that will help the lawns that have dried out a bit. It is amazing how good the grass cuts when it is bit cooler and even wet. Next time you mow in weather above 95 just notice how much is left even with sharp blades. The weeds just lay over when they are parched.
