How to tell if the pine straw you are buying is good or bad:
- The reddish color is usually fresher and better overall.
- Ask the seller to break open a bail to see if there are limbs, trash, grass, etc inside it.
- Tighter bales go further.
- If you are a homeowner, just call around to local lawn care providers to see where they get pine straw. They will know which places carry the good stuff consistently.
- In my personal opinion, The Straw Lot in Jefferson Georgia is the place to go. The bales are clean and big and the guy that manages the lot is helpful .
