Just Stop Cutting Your Grass

If you hate your neighbors & your community just stop mowing your lawn. It will repulse your neighbors and embarrass your community. Not to mention it will devalue your property & those surrounding you.

Where to Buy Plants in North Georgia

Where do you all get your plants in the north Georgia area? Home Depot, local nurseries, or even the flea market? Shirley’s feed and seed in Commerce sells quite a bit in my area. Of course HD sells a ton of plants as well. I like smaller places like Shirley’s and have even bought a couple things at the J&J flea market in Athens. I have had good luck with both.

Better Lawn Equals Less Crime?

Studies have shown a nicer landscape equals reduced crime. Worth a try even if it only makes your property more beautiful :)

Get Organized in Georgia

This is not a lawn post but many people need help with organizing their home so here is a link to a great website that helps you unclutter your life. This post is enough to get going but read more on the site if you want more.

Ideas for Your Gardening Goals

This blog has some good ideas for “green” type gardening. I like the idea of trying to grow more of your own food. That and buying from local farmers markets is a good idea.

Cool Slideshow from Home & Garden Show

The show was in North Carolina so some plants should be relevant to us in Georgia Link.

I 85 Closed in Jackson County

Stay off the roads unless it is an emergency warns the DOT. We Georgians are not the best at navigating icy roads. Part of I-85 was even shut down last night for a time. What a mess!

Lawn Care. Going Green. Maybe

I just read an article about how lawns are not really good for the environment since they require mowers, blowers, trimmers, etc to care for them. It makes sense but in reality it will be hard to fix that problem. The article has a couple suggestions that are not realistic on a broad basis like using manual push mowers. Yeah, I don’t know anyone here in Georgia that is going to us a manual push mower. I don’t know many Georgians that use a push mower that is self propelled! I certainly would not care to use one.

To have a lawn you have to care for it. At the bare minimum you have to mow it and that is just basic care with not fertilizing, leaf blowing, etc. You cannot just pave your entire property or allow it to wash away with mud or get overgrown with grass and weeds. So until solar powered mowers are affordable / and efficient in the future I don’t see how to eliminate the need for gas powered mowers. Propane is an option that has some benefits though and many commercial mowers are offering this option like the Dixie Chopper below.

The article is here.

Leaves Down. Now Pine Straw

With about 100% of the leaves fallen in North Georgia, it is a good time to put pine straw out in your landscape beds. Don’t wait until it is so hot that you just forget about pine straw all together. :)

Sprinkler Head Repair: How To

A quick video from youtube for anyone wanting to know how to repair a sprinkler head. My mowing customers here in North Georgia have a hard time finding sprinkler maintenance people. T
